The secret garden is designed to include all the ingredients of a dream garden – tumbling roses, a beautiful Victorian greenhouse, rows of vegetables, trained fruit trees and abundant flowers for cutting. At the end of each row of raspberries a ‘lipstick red’ rose evokes the tradition of the client’s favourite vineyards. The design also caters for ease of gardening with raised beds uniquely shaped to fit the changing curves of the walls while allowing an easy reach into the bed. The garden will also be a very special place to entertain guests with a table placed under the greenhouse canopy, surrounded by the scent of lavender and roses.
At the start, this uniquely challenging site combined a long, thin curved plot, a slope and a north facing wall. Also, fairly heavy clay soil and a wilderness site which had become known as ‘no man’s land’!
